Abdul Ghaffar khan was also called as Badshah khan, Bacha khan, Sarhadi Gandhi (Frontier Gandhi) and King khan. In 1985, Ghaffar khan was nominated for the Nobel peace prize and once even offered the presidency of Indian National congress. But he refused to take the post saying “I am a simple soldier and Khudai Khidmatgar, and I only want to serve.” His Khudai Khidmatgar (servants of God) movement worked cohesively with the congress because of his close, spiritual relationship with Mahatma Gandhi.

He was against the Indo- Pakistan partition and the last word of him to Gandhi was “You have thrown us to the wolves.” Ghaffar khan was condemned to be anti-muslim and was kept under house arrest for many years starting from 1948. Once he gave a speech condemning his supporters killings at Babrra and told “I had to go to prison many a time in the days of the Britishers. Although we were at loggerheads with them, yet their treatment was to some extent tolerant and polite. But the treatment which was meted out to me in this Islamic state of ours was such that I would not even like to mention it to you.”
